Lakme Fashion Week

Did you know Lakme Fashion Week is the first fashion show to have taken place in India?

LFW, which is organized in Mumbai, is a bi-annual Indian fashion event. The first show – Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort takes place in February and the second event Lakme Fashion Week Winter Event takes place in August.

The most prominent of all the top 10 fashion shows of India, LFW is controlled by Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and sponsored by Lakme.

India enjoyed their first ever fashion show back in August 1999 at Delhi, Taj Palace. Since it was the first national event, country’s leading designers had geared up for the show.

Around 33 designers including Rana Gill, Ritu Beri, Monisha Jaising, Anamika Khanna, Tarun Tahiliani, Rina Dhaka, Rohit Bal, Malini Ramani, Manish Arora, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Ashish Soni to name a few had participated to showcase their creations at national level.

Ranna Gill was the first designer to open the show with her Fall 2000 collections, which was then followed by Gudda’s (Rohit Bal) winter line for men, Ritu Beri’s shimmering numbers, Monisha Jaising’s mirror works and bridal trousseau by Anamika Khanna.

Today the LFW is the most popular Indian fashion event, thanks to the designers like Manish Malhotra, Vikram Phadnis, Sabysachi Mukherjee and Rocky S to name a few, who have effortlessly managed to bring Bollywood and fashion on a single runway.

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week had celebrated their 23rd edition in March at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2014 witnessed 118 prominent as well as young designers offering a grand total of 31 shows for the event.

The bi-annual prêt weeks for women’s wear is run by FDCI and is sponsored by Wills Lifestyle and was established a year later in 2000 after LFW.

WIFW is an all-encompassing fashion event, exhibiting works by eminent designers including Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Guari & Nainika, Alpana & Neeraj, Janavi, Nikasha, Joy Mitra and Amit Aggarwal to name a few.
