Fun- a perfect word that describes ‘hostel life’! Remember those crazy nights you spent with your roomies planning a weekend trip? The fun that you had in staying together and the excitement that you felt in travelling around with them, surely made them your second family. Those trips and friends would be your only major entertainment while you stayed away from home.
Awesome memories are ready knitted in your minds when you think about those good old days. Let’s now take a look back at the things hostel life did, to bring out the traveller in you.
1. You are so bored in the room that change is your only constant
You are so excited and looking forward to enjoy your hostel life when you shift; making new friends and accommodating yourself into that space takes away the initial few days. Then begins the movie marathons, late night gossips and sleeping to infinity on off days. But that is not all that you do; once you are tired of this, begins the most exciting phase of hostel- Tripping with your friends!
2. You have learnt to live alone, so travelling alone is no big deal
Cleaning, washing, eating and entertainment- all done alone; you have so much hands on experience in doing things alone that nothing can stop you from travelling alone. May it be because of the friends who ditch you or the desire to visit a place alone, you are up for it!
3. After that hostel food you can be immune to anything
“Nothing can make me sick after this hostel food” haven’t you cribbed about the hostel food in a way like this a number of times? Mostly yes. Taste and hygiene will never again be on the same page for you and trying out any kind of food to treat your taste buds becomes the easiest. No worries about disease!
4. Instant noodles are your best friend in hostel and also during travel
The tastiest and easiest you can afford at any moment in your hostel room, noodles become your all-time best friend. They come and will continue to come to your rescue every time you hate going to the mess to eat that not so tasty food; this applies to travelling as well.
5. Adjusting anywhere is not a big deal for you
How many nights must have you adjusted with mosquitoes, bedbugs, roommates and what not in hostel? This initially becomes a habit then a virtue that will stay with you forever. Small, dingy, unclean, irritating or anything for that matter will not bother you ever again!
6. You find similarity in booking tatkal tickets and getting chicken on Sunday nights
Remember how you would lose out on all the good pieces of chicken just because you were late by a few minutes? You would then have to wait for an entire week to get them back; that’s how it’s with travel too. You afford to be late by even just a minute and all your hopes can shatter along with the tatkal bookings.
7. Hostel makes you the king of jugaad and you apply this even while travelling
During your hostel days, you know which door to knock when you need an iron box, a blazer or formal shoes! Your list of who has what and how to get it from them is super sorted. May it be something as small as making a water bottle your pillow or getting a confirmed seat from the TT, you have hacks for all of it. Arranging such things was never a big deal for you, it’s exactly the same with your travel tricks.
8. Packing is a cake walk for you! You never forget anything
Nobody under the sky can beat you in this! You are the boss of packing and dare you forget anything; no never. You may not be a systematic packer but the talent you possess in stuffing the maximum in the smallest of bags is tremendous!
9. You are super aware of a lot of things; bluffing you is impossible
Hostel life is not just about staying with unknown people with a motto of finishing your course. It’s an opportunity to explore and learn about different people and different way of life; diverse roommates and hostel buddies will make you a knowledge bank. Multiple languages, dialects, routes and travel hacks; all chapters studied and revised thoroughly; nobody will be able to beat you with that!
