Vythiri hill station has a renowned wildlife sanctuary and the serene ambience is sometimes interrupted by the resonating sound of wild animals and birds. Situated far from the dirt and grime of the city, the hill station of Vythiri rejuvenates your tired senses. This charming rocky land is elevated 1300m above the sea level, just above the Thamarassery Ghat and is located at about 100 km from Kozhikode.

Vythri is also famous for its temples. The Thirunelli Temple situated at the foot of Brahmagiri Hills, is also known as Dakshin Kashi.

Green cover and natural bio-diversity are the USP of Vythiri. Head to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary to view the wild animals, especially herds of elephants.

The weather in Vythiri is generally pleasant, because the town may be a resort town and major hill station. It is visited all year around however the most effective time is from Oct to may.

PLACES AROUND VYTHIRI

Wayanad Wildlife Reserve - This famous park is easily accessible from all over the state. Elephants, bison, spotted deer, tiger, leopard, bear and wild boar can be spotted here. Best time to visit would be from June to October.

Pookot Lake - A very beautiful picnic spot and a place to relax in a serene backdrop. The area surrounding the lake has an aquarium, children’s park and a small emporium selling handicrafts and spices.

Kuruva Island - Situated on a tributary of the river Kabani, this is a calm place for to picnicking with family. It is an isolated place with serene environment and evergreen forests.

Pazhassi Raja Tomb - It is a memorial for Pazhassi Raja who was considered the lion of Kerala. Pazhassi Raja led guerilla-type warfare against the British for independence.

Sulthan Bathery - A small, charming town, it was originally called Ganapativattom. Its name was changed after Tipu Sultan of Mysore captured the place. A battery of the Sultan’s artillery was stationed here and hence the name.

Waterfalls - Kalpetta region of Wayanad is famous for various waterfalls, the most charming and famous being Soochippara Waterfalls, Meenmutty Falls and Kanthapara falls. Panchateertha, situated Kanthapara falls. Panchateertha, situated close to Thirunelly temple, is also famous.

Edakkal Caves - It is a natural fissure created by rock splitting due to natural weathering. The depth of the crevice and the fissure is nearly 30 ft which gives it an appearance of being a cave.

CLIMATE

Vythiri’s climate and terrain has helped the region develop fast as the leading centres of commercial crop plantations. Crops like tea, coffee, rubber and spices grow abundantly in Vythiri.

Air: Nearest Airport is Kozhikode. Located 22 km from the city at Karipur near Kondotty, the Calicut International Airport serves both domestic and international flights.. One can fly to the Middle East cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Damam, Riyadh, Jiddah and Sharjah. Taxis are available from airport to reach Vythiri.

Rail: Nearest railway station is Kozhikode and it is well connected to almost all destination of Kerala and major cities of India like Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Mangalore, Gandhidham, Pune, Kolkata, Ajmer and Bikaner.

Road: Buses to Vythiri ply from the city of Kozhikode and the journey takes about two hours. Kozhikode is 66 km away from Vythiri.
