Shivgiri

''Located in a dense forest that provides a beautiful sense of isolation, Shivgiri is situated above the Yemmedoddi village in Hoggarekangri hills, north of Baba Budan Giri hills.
The Shivgiri Trails Estate, which is almost 100 years old, is situated on top of a hill in the midlle of the tiger reserve in the jungles of Yemmedoddi. Vast areas are covered with coffee plantations, the rich red berries of coffee seeds add their colour to the dense greenery around. ''

Shivgiri is a scenic town of Chikmagalur district of Karnataka and settled in Babu Bundanagiri mounds of Kadur Taluk. It is rich in coffee plantations. One can get a beautiful glimpse of these coffee shoot from top of the hill. The 100 years old coffee estate is situated in the middle of Yemmedoddi forest which is a renowned Tiger Reserve in India.

Shivgiri is entirely away from external worls and makes it one of the outstanding holiday destinations to unwind the tangled nerves. It is a perfect choice to stay aloof from city life, to relax and to de-emphasize. The forest offers an excellent trekking, rock climbing, bird watching and wildlife watching.

The forest aound Shivgiri were the favourite hunting grounds of the British for its varied wild life.

Bageshwar city is situated amidst Himalayan ranges. Hence the weather remains breezy and cool throughout the year. Best months to visit this place are from October-May.

PLACES AROUND SHIVGIRI

Doddabale Siddaragudda Peak - The Doddabale Siddaragudda Peak, which is 5,500 feet high, has amazing views of its surroundings. One can view the Bhadra Lake and Lakeville Dam to the south.

Lord Shiva Temple - The Lord Shiva Temple in Shivgiri is believed to almost 400 years old by the locals. The temple can be viewed from the peak of Doddabale Siddaragudda.

Madagadakere Lake - Madagadakere is a large lake located near the small village of Yemmedoddi. The lake, according to a legend, is believed to be filled up by magic rain.

Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary- Named after a village that lies on the outer periphery of the sanctuary, Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary is also called as Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary after the River Bhadra and its tributaries which run their course through the forest. The Sanctuay was declared as the 25th Tiger Reseve of India under Poject Tiger in 1998 and has a decent tiger population.

Yemmedoddi Jungle Safari - The Yemmedoddi Jungle Safari is a must if one is visiting Shivgiri. Varities of birds and animals can be found in this natural habitat. Tiger trails and pug marks of a tiger or panther, the sound of wild pigs are common. Other animal that can be found here are sloth bears, mouse deer and spotted deer, jackals, monkeys etc. Many natural caves found in the jungles are homes to the animals here.

Trekking - Trekking in Shivgiri can be an exuberant experience for the campers. One can trek up Doddabale Siddaragudda, the peak which is approximately 5500 ft high, and can enjoy the awesome views of Madagada lake, Aiyyan Kere, Baba Budanagiri hill ranges and Kemmangundi hills.

Jungle Safari - The thick forest of Shivgir houses numerous bird species and wild anmals. Jungle safari in Yemmedoddi forest is a marvelous experience to watch wild animals in their natural habitat. One can see tigers, panthers, deer, wild pigs and many more variety of species.
