Malampujha

''Malampuzha, a little township on the foothills of the Western Ghats, is located 10 km from Palakkad town. The name Malampuzha originates from the river Malampuzha which flows through here. Major attractions are Dam, amusement park, boating facilities, rock garden and ropeway. Nurtured by this tributary of Kerala's longest river, the Bharathappuzha, Malampuzha is a lush green town and has been a major tourist attraction for its trekking trails and the large irrigation dam. ''

Around the reservoir of the dam are beautiful gardens and amusement parks. Boating facilities are available on the lake. Other attractions in the Malampuzha garden are the beautiful rock garden, the fish-shaped aquarium, the snake park, the ropeway which takes you on an aerial tour of the park, and the gigantic Yakshi (an enchantress) sculptured by Kanai Kunhiraman, a renowned sculptor of Kerala.

The most interesting feature of the rock garden is that the whole place is made of unwanted and broken pieces of bangles, tiles, used plastic cans, tins and other waste materials. The garden is a master work of sculptor Padmasree Neck Chand Saini. His rock garden in Chandigarh is world famous and attracts thousands of tourists every year.

Malampuzha Gardens - Malampuzha Gardens is in fact the ‘Vrindavan’ of Kerala as it has the pristine surroundings that include Malampuzha Dam’s serene stream along with the Western Ghats.

Malampuzha Dam - Malampuzha Dam was formed in 1955, with the construction starting from the year of 1949. Its height is around 115.06 meters. Kerala is blessed with the largest irrigation structure because of this dam.

Snake Park - The location of the Snake Park is in the region of Malampuzha Dam and Malampuzha Gardens. It is a protected place for snakes to get care in case they are wounded.

Yakshi Statue - The place adds that appealing characteristic to the region of Malampuzha. Yakshi Statue is nestled in the Malampuzha Gardens and is surrounded by the beautiful and thriving greenery. This effigy is a rock-strewn carving of Yakshi, shaped by the distinguished sculptor Kanai Kanhiraman.

Fantasy Park - An amusement park close to Malapmuzha, Fantasy Park has a range of rides, both wet and dry. To stay on as family fun place, they have included appropriate rides for kids and adults.

Rock Garden - Designed by Shri. Nekchand, this is the only rock-cut garden in south India.

PALAKKAD - Celebrated as the granary of Kerala, Palakkad is a vast expanse of verdant plains interspersed with hills, rivers, mountain streams and forests. The gateway to Kerala from the North, a 40 km break in the mountain known as the Palakkad Gap gives access to this land situated at the foot of the Western Ghats.

The reservoir - Boating and fishing facilities are available here. Pedal boats, row boats, water scooters and motor boats can be hired, from 1000-1800hrs.A well maintained swimming pool(Tuesday holiday),a fresh water aquarium(open1100-2000hrs,1300-2100hrs on holidays),a snake park(open0800-1800hrs)and a children’s park are other add-ons.

CLIMATE

Winters sustains for the months of December, January and February. The climatic condition is very pleasing in this duration. The temperature ranges in between the level of 20°C to 32°C. So, the tourists choose it to be the best season to visit Malampuzha.

Air: Coimbatore is the nearest airport to the hill station of Malampuzha and is located around 55 km from Palakkad, which in turn is just about 40 km from Mannarkkad.

Rail: The nearest railway station to the quaint hill station of Malampuzha is at Palakkad, which is just around 5 kms away from the main city of Malampuzha. Palakkad is one of the most important junctions of the Southern Railways.

Road: Malampuzha is well- connected to almost all its neighboring districts by smooth roads and an efficient system of local transport. The region is also well- linked to several districts of Tamil Nadu by well- maintained motor-able roads.
