Amboli

''Amboli is located in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. This hill station is at an altitude of 690m above the sea level. Having dense forests and steep mountains, Amboli is the last hill resort before the coastal plains begin in the southern ranges of the Sahyadri Hills.
The hilltop Amboli gives a fine bird's-eye view of the Konkan coast. Colonel Westrop, who was a British political agent, developed Amboli as a hill station after the opening of the Ghat Road from the coastal town of Vengurla, now in southern Maharashtra, to Belgaum. ''

Attractive waterfalls can be seen here in the monsoon while the summers at Amboli are tremendously pleasing and cool. BEST TIME TO VISIT

Amboli can be visited all through the year. Despite being a hill station, summers in Amboli can be hot and dry. Winters are pleasantly cool. October to February is the best time to visit Amboli.

Amboli Falls - A beautiful waterfall, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Amboli.

Nangarta Falls - A small fall by comparative standards, Nangarta Falls is a popular tourist attraction.

Madhavgad Fort - One of the biggest forts in Maharashtra, Madhavgad offers scenic views of the Arabian Sea. The fort is in ruins today.

Kavlesad Point - It offers splendid views of the valley. Apart from a few small waterfalls, the point is popular with tourists as it is an echo spot.

Shiva Temple - Situated near the cave from where Hiranyakeshi River originates, Lord Shiva is the presiding deity. The temple attracts a large number of devotees during Mahashivratri. The cave next to the temple has seven ponds.

Hiranyakeshi temple - Situated close to the origin of Hiranyakeshi River, the Hiranyakeshi temple is built around the river’s source. The temple is one of the most attractive places in Amboli.

Sawantwadi - Situated close to the Goa border, it was the seat of the Sawant Bhosale dynasty, Sawantwadi is 30 km from Amboli. Royal Palace, Kolgaon Darwaza, Lester Gate, Atmeshwar Tali, etc. are worth seeing. Sawantwadi is also famous for its Ganjifa cards.

Tarkarli - Famous for its beaches lakes, forts and temples, Tarkalri is a popular tourist destination around Amboli at a distance of 101 km.

CLIMATE

Climate remains pleasant for most part of the year, summers being the idol receiver of the gifts of Nature in geography that facilitates the climate. Temperature rarely goes above 20°C in summers and nights can be cooler than expectation so bringing few warm clothes always works. In winters, the temperature often drops to 0°C, so being prepared for that make it comfortable to enjoy touring Munnar and immersing in the cool of its days and nights. Monsoons are often heavy and thus people avoid coming here during June to September.

Air: The nearest airport to Amboli is Goa Airport which connects the city with local flights to Mumbai and Bangalore. For international flights, one can move to the Mumbai airport which is at a distance of 555 km from the hill station.

Rail: The Savantwadi railway station is the nearest railhead to Amboli. It is located at a distance of 30 km and connects all the main cities of the state.

Road: Amboli is well linked via road to Goa (129 Km) and Mumbai (492 km). One can also get tourist buses and cabs from Mumbai to Savantwadi on a regular interval.
