1. KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI

Translated in English as “Something happens…”, this directorial debut of Karan Johar catapulted him to cloud nine. The idea of portraying innocence of a daughter, love for her father, and admiration towards a mother figure bolstered Mr.Johar’s out of the box idea to get success at a historic level.

This movie reformulated the idea of love triangle in such a way that it gave new dimensions to other writers to think upon. Apparently, demonstrating the age old hypothesis that men and women can never be non-romantic companions without difficulties, Anjali (Kajol) falls in love with Rahul (Shahrukh), without his knowledge. Rahul then tells her that he has fallen for Tina (Rani Mukherjee). Anjali flees the college. The tale then cuts to a point in time years later, after Tina has unexpectedly died, leaving Rahul as a single parent, free to meet Anjali again.

The sweet relationship of “Devar-Bhabhi” and a handsome relation of two brothers and a typical rapport of two loving sister is the sould of movie.

HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN

Songs in the movie still make their presence in Indian weddings, same as “tuffy” as pet in usual households.

How can one forget or miss watching DDLJ every time it is shown on a channel! A superlative movie, it is a story of two non-residential Indians – Raj (Shahrukh) and Simran (Kajol) who meet on a European Trip and fell in love.

It relates to how Raj endeavors to win over Simran’s family, so that the couple can marry. Simran’s dad opposes the two and Raj tries until the very famous sequence of Simran running to catch up the train and mandolin adding a bit more love spice to the romantic climax takes place.

DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE

And yes, how can we forget Senorita, bade-bade shehron main aisi choti-choti batein hoti rehti hain. This film is not a story, it’s a romantic SAGA.

4. ANDAZ APNA APNA

ANDAZ APNA APNA

The movie is capable of giving stomach-aches to its audience with characters like Teja (Paresh Rawal), crime master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor) and Bhalla (Shehzad Khan) who are still fresh in memories. Robert follow me was one of the famous dialogues we got from this movie while the song dil mera dhak dhak dole became an overnight hit.

5. DIL CHAHTA HAI

Another perfect attempt by Mr. Perfectionist, Dil Chahta Hai, a comedy drama film is about three distinct characters, Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) and Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna), their individual relationships and the effect that these relationships have on them.

The movie is partially based on writer-director Farhan Akhtar’s diaries on his trip to Las Vegas, his 1996 month-and-a-half long stay at New York, and a storyline narrated to him by a friend.

DIL CHAHTA HAI

6. LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI

The hilarious duo of Munna (Sanjay Dutt) and Circuit (Arshad Warsi) made a comeback after a successful outing of “Munnabhai MBBS”. This time, Rajkumar Hirani used the concept of Gandhism as “Gandhigiri” in the current scenario in the society and gave a message that people can die, but their idea lives forever.

Movie depicts how a person thinks that his life can be easy with lies but in reality he get down and under the quagmire. Though truth is difficult to be expressed it is the most beautiful thing which can be shared with the loved ones.

The flawless beauty of Vidya Balan and the very perfect Boman Irani did justice to their characters. The soundtrack Vande Mataram redefined with Bande main tha dum Vande Mataram was praised all over.

LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI

Jimmy Shergil, Dia Mirza, Saurabh Shukla, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda made it a perfect compendium of fun and emotions, and encourage one to introspect. So, mamu firse dekhe kya ye?

7. RANG DE BASANTI

One of the best concept movies in India “Rang De Basanti” released in 2006 builds a great nexus between the youth of British era time and the youth in current society. A perfect amalgamation of politics, friendship, patriotism, romance and history, this melodrama of Rakesh OmPrakash Mehra is a classic example of a perfect movie.

Depiction of legends like Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Raj Guru, etc gave the modern day oblivious audience a patriotic side of the movie and made them acquainted with ideologies of these people.

In the film, both the 1930’s British India and the India today run parallel and intersect with each other at crucial points. As the film reaches its resolution, the line between past and present blurs, as they become one in spirit.

RANG DE BASANTI

Again a perfect show put up by Wahida Rehman, Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, and Sharman Joshi is commendable. Immaculate compositions of A.R. Rehman added feathers to its cap.

8. SHOLAY

“Sholay” is the type of film that no matter how many times is talked about or frequently played at cinemas, movie buffs never get tired of it. This is an ultimate example of an evergreen classic.

Everyone has their own different favourite moment or scene that they recall from the movie, be it breathless Basanti saying Kyunke mujhe befuzool baat karne ki aadat to hai nahin, Gabbar’s philosophy Jo darr gaya samjho margaya…

Salim-Javed exhausted all their fervors in writing the dialogues and result is that we still remember Arey o Sambha kitne admi they??

R.D. Burman added gems to the beautiful necklace made by Ramesh Sippy. Songs like “Yeh dosti” “mehbooba mehbooba”, “jab tak hain jaan”, “koi haseena jab rooth jati hai” is still used as a weapon by boys to pacify their girlfriends (though it misfires sometimes #personal_experience 😀 )

SHOLAY

So it can be safely said that this was the perfect amalgam made by Mr. Sippy, which entertained audiences long back and is still doing it very well.

9. KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM

A story of extra rich family (this “extra” added before money or culture), this family drama of Karan Johar thwarted all the commercial records. A perfect portrayal of love, affection, a sense of difference of thought due to age gap, example of miscommunication, a mother’s heart-break, a father’s silent love for his son, make this movie a perfect choice for a family watch. Tears are bound to roll over after watching this typical Indian love story.

Real life couple of Amitabh and Jaya looked even better on-screen with handsome sons played by Shahrukh and Hrithik.

Repudiated by his dad and left to his own, Rahul gathers Anjali and her young sister Pooja (Kareena Kapoor), and sets his sights on London. As the sorrow of Rahul’s mom gets too excessive to manage, Rahul’s sibling Rohan embarks to discover his brother and rejoin their divided family.

KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM

Having almost ten songs in this, this has one of the richest album ever made. Singing veterans like Lata Mangeshkar, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Kavitha Subramaniam and Sunidhi Chauhan didn’t allow anyone to question on this segment of movie.

10. MUGHAL-E-AZAM

This movie is there in this list because a superhit movie can only be connoted by Mughal-E-Azam. This feature film was directed by K Asif and produced by Shapoorji Pallonji.

This historical epic starring adept actors like Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, and Durga Khote displays the love affair between Mughal Prince Salim (who went on to become Emperor Jahangir) and Anarkali, a court dancer. Consequently, Salim’s father, Emperor Akbar, disapproves of the relationship, which leads to a war between father and the son.

MUGHAL-E-AZAM

Not only the movie, the trivia related to it are much more interesting than it like Naushad employed a chorus consisting of 100 singers for song “Aey Mohabbat Zindabad” and A resplendent Sheesh Mahal was built to shoot this song, at a princely sum of Rs. 10 lakhs.
