Bollywood Actress Sherlyn Chopra Becomes First Indian Model To Pose Nude For Playboy
Bollywood actress Sherlyn Chopra is making history by posing for Playboy magazine.
Bollywood actress Sherlyn Chopra will appear nude in the November issue of Playboy, becoming the first Indian woman to do so.
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner tweeted earlier: “Bollywood starlet Sherlyn Chopra will be the first Indian to appear nude in Playboy, in the November issue.”
According to BBC, the 28-year-old–who has had small roles in a number of Bollywood films had written to Playboy expressing an interest in posing – and the magazine got back to her “within three to four days”.
“I have become the first Indian to pose naked for Playboy and nobody can take away that achievement from me,” Chopra said.
“My sister is proud of my achievement. I haven’t told anything to my mother, but I think I will visit her and tell her that she has to accept me the way I am.”
Jezebel reports that Chopra is a B-list actress in India. The Hindustan Times describes her career as consisting of “blink-and-miss performance in about ten films.” In many of the roles, Chopra played the seductress — “plunging necklines, tight skirts and bikinis.”
The actress also recorded three albums, and her image is consistently sexy. She had a single called “Outrageous,” in which she purred about her hips and her “joy ride,” she posed in a bikini for PETA, and, according to the Hindustan Times.
Chopra said she had visited Mr Hefner and his friends at the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles.
“I had fun meeting him and his girlfriends. I am thinking of making him my idol because he lives his life on his terms and conditions. I also live my life on my terms and conditions,” Chopra said.
The actress said: “It is not an easy task to be nude in front of the camera and look good at the same time.”
Sherlyn Chopra’s appearance in the magazine is already proving controversial in India, according to Daily Mail. Although Playboy is banned in the country, people can still get access to it from the internet.
“At a time when innocent women across the nation from Gujarat to Guwahati have been subjected to sexual abuse and humiliation, one wonders if Sherlyn Chopra’s pictures wound a woman’s integrity,” said commentator Gayatri Sankar.
“She’s not hot, she’s repulsive,” wrote one critic on Twitter.
The magazine, which features photographs of nude women, as well as fiction and journalism, was founded in Chicago in 1953 by Mr Hefner.
It is one of the world’s best known brands, although it is banned in many parts of Asia.
At the same time, circulation and advertising revenues have been falling with the availability on the internet of free pornography.
Most of India’s soft-porn magazines have shut down over the years, as more and more people access pornography over the internet.
The actress also has hinted that her next step may be into sex films.
She said India’s youth “is racing towards liberalisation, and that’s why being unconventional in your choices is no longer a taboo.”
Chopra uploaded snapshots from her tour of the famous Playboy mansions in Los Angeles to her Twitter account.
