The Indian Army, with its impressive performance, is the third largest standing army in the world with over 1,325,000 active troops and 2,143,000 reserve troops. Each year over a lakh candidates apply for GD (General Duty) and thousands for entry into commissioned ranks.
Indian Army has large numbers of soldiers which make one of the largest Army in world. To manage it soldiers there are various ranks available in Army. Traditional British names for ranks are still being used in India, along with the western names for those respective ranks.
इंडियन आर्मी में कुल 19 रैंक्स होती हैं। हर अधिकारी को उसके पद के अनुरूप एक बैज दी जाती है जो पद की गरिमा और अधिकारों को दर्शाती है।

Field Marshal (फील्ड मार्शल)

The Field Marshal rank is the highest rank in the Indian Army. It is a ceremonial or wartime rank and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and Field Marshal KM Cariappa have been the only two officers to be elevated to the rank of Field Marshal.
फील्ड मार्शल रैंक सेना मे सर्वोच्च पद होता था। जिस को वर्तमान मे सेना ने समाप्त कर दिया है। भारतीय सेना मे आज तक सिर्फ दो फील्ड मार्शल रहे है – Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw और Field Marshal K M Cariappa।
1. General (जनरल)
General is the highest rank in Indian Army now. General is the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. The position is abbreviated as COAS in Indian Army cables and communication, and usually held by a 4-star officer in the rank of General. General use Gold national emblem over a gold star both outlined in red, all over a crossed gold baton and scimitar outlined in red.
जनरल भारतीय सेना का सबसे बड़ा पद होता है। इसके लिए जो बैज दी जाती है उसमे एक अशोक स्तम्भ, एक स्टार और तलवार होती है।
2. Lieutenant General (लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल)
Lieutenant General is the second highest rank in Indian Army. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second in command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern age, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general. A lieutenant general heads up an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60,000 soldiers. Lieutenant General use Gold national emblem outlined in red over a crossed gold baton and scimitar outlined in red.
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल की बैज में अशोक स्तम्भ और तलवार होती है लेकिन स्टार नही होता।
3. Major General (मेजर जनरल)
Major General is the third highest rank in Indian Army. A major general is a high-ranking officer, normally subordinate to the rank of lieutenant general and senior to the ranks of brigadier and brigadier general. Major General use Gold star outlined in red over a crossed gold baton and scimitar outlined in red.
मेजर जनरल की बैज में एक स्टार और तलवार होती है।
4. Brigadier (ब्रिगेडियर)
Brigadier is the fourth highest rank in Indian Army. Brigadier is a senior military rank generally superior to the rank of colonel, and subordinate to major general. A brigadier commands a brigade consisting of three battalions (approximately 3,000 troops). Brigadier use Gold national emblem over three gold stars in a triangle formation.
ब्रिगेडियर की बैज में एक अशोक स्तम्भ और तीन स्टार होते हैं।
5. Colonel (कर्नल)
Colonel is the fufth highest rank in Indian Army. Abbreviated as Col, is a military rank of a senior commissioned officer who is in charge of a regiment in an army. "Colonel" is usually the highest or second-highest field rank. Colonel use Gold national emblem over two gold stars.
सेना के कर्नल की बैज में एक अशोक स्तम्भ और दो स्टार होते हैं।
6. Lieutenant Colonel (लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल)
Lieutenant Colonel is the sixth highest rank in Indian Army. Lieutenant Colonel ranking is above a major and below a colonel. The rank of lieutenant colonel is often shortened to simply "colonel" in conversation and in unofficial correspondence. A lieutenant colonel is typically in charge of a battalion in the army. Lieutenant Colonel use Gold national emblem over one gold star.

7. Major (मेजर)
Major is the seven highest rank in Indian Army. Major use Gold national emblem.
मेजर की बैज में सिर्फ एक अशोक स्तम्भ होता है।
8. Captain (कैप्टन)
Major is the eight highest rank in Indian Army. Captain is a commissioned officer rank historically corresponding to command of a company of soldiers. Captain use Three gold stars.
सेना में कैप्टन की बैज में तीन स्टार होते हैं।
9. Lieutenant (लेफ्टिनेंट)
Major is the ninth highest rank in Indian Army. A lieutenant is a junior commissioned officer in many nations' armed forces. Lieutenant use two gold stars.
सेना के लेफ्टिनेंट की बैज में दो स्टार होते हैं।

इनकी बैज पर एक अशोक स्तम्भ होता है साथ ही एक पीले और लाल कलर की पट्टी होती है।
11. Subedar - Risaldar (सूबेदार)
Insignia - Two gold stars with stripe. Promotion by selection.
हर बटालियन मे कई सूबेदार होते है| सूबेदार भी एक जूनियर Commissioned ऑफिसर होता है। सेना के सूबेदार की बैज पर दो स्टार और एक पीले और लाल रंग की पट्टी होती है।
12. Naib Subedar - Naib Risaldar (नायब सूबेदार)
Insignia - One gold star with stripe. Promotion by selection.
नायब सूबेदार की बैज पर एक स्टार और एक पीले-लाल रंग की पट्टी होती है।

13. Havildar (Infantry) or Daffadar (हवलदार)
Insignia - Three rank chevrons. Promotion by selection.
हवालदार की बैज पर सिर तीन पट्टी होती हैं।
14. Naik (Infantry) or Lance Daffadar (नायक)
Insignia - Two rank chevrons. Promotion by selection
नायक की बैज पर दो पट्टी होती हैं।
15. Lance Naik (Infantry) or Acting Lance Daffadar (लांस नायक)
Insignia - One rank chevron. Promotion by selection.
लांस नायक की बैज पर सिर्फ एक पट्टी स्थित होती है।
16. Soldiers (Sepoy, Jawan) or Acting Lance Daffadar (सिपाही)
Insignia - Plain shoulder badge. The Sepoys identify themselves according to the Corps that they serve in. For example, a sepoy from Signals will identify him as Signalman, from Infantry as RIfleman and from the Armoured Corps as Gunner.
सिपाही की बैज पर कोई पट्टी नहीं होती है। यह प्लेन होता है।
