Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the second day of his Japan visit by addressing the Indian community in Tokyo. He touched upon various topics -- from Chandrayaan and Make in India to Diwali festivities and Sardar Patel's soon-to-be-ready statue in Gujarat.

Here's what the prime minister talked about while addressing the non-resident Indians in Japan:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian community in Japan for taking 'brand India' to new heights by introducing cricket, Indian food and culture to the island nation.

"Just as how lamps light up the dark during Diwali wherever you are, you are spreading the light of India to every corner of the world and Japan and making the country proud. My best wishes are with you," PM Modi said, ahead of the commencement of the Diwali festivities back in India.

PM Modi cited his government's 'Make in India' initiative to boost manufacturing in India, especially India's progress in mobile phone manufacturing.

"'Make in India' has emerged as a global brand today. We're manufacturing quality products not only for India but for the world. India is becoming a global hub, especially in the field of electronics and automobile manufacturing. We're rapidly moving towards being no.1 in mobile phones manufacturing," he said.

The prime minister further appreciated the welfare schemes launched by his government. "India is going through a massive transformative phase today. The world is appreciating India for its efforts towards services towards humanity. The policies being made in India, and the work being done towards public welfare are being felicitated today," he said.

PM Modi also cited the developments made in the field of space technology. "Last year, our scientists created a record by launching over 100 satellites into space simultaneously. We sent Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan at a very low expense. India is preparing to send Gaganyaan into space by 2022. It'll be Indian in all ways and one travelling in it, will also be an Indian," he said.

The prime minister had pledged a manned space flight during his annual Independence Day speech this year.

Modi also invoked the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the event.

"We celebrate Sardar Patel's birth anniversary every year, but this time we'll grab the attention of the entire world. In Gujarat, his birthplace, Sardar sahab's statue - the tallest in the world - is being built," he said.

The structure is reportedly twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in the United States. It is being constructed at the banks of River Narmada in Gujarat.

On Sunday, PM Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks over lunch and a private dinner at the latter's holiday home. The Indian prime minister later took an express train to Tokyo and also visited Japan's largest facility for building industrial robots.

PM Modi also met several Japanese venture capitalists and attended the business leaders forum on Monday. He was also called on by Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko.

The prime minister leaves for India later today.
